"GOD'S SNOWBALL EFFECT"

In 2007 two lovely, ordinary women of God took on an extraordinary task knowing that God would supply all that was needed. Becky and Karen, from a large Church in Calgary, began the "small" project of helping to restore and equip the Philip Quaque Boy's and Girl's Schools in Cape Coast, Ghana, Africa.

The "small" project did not stay small for very long due to the perseverance of these 2 women, "GOD'S SNOWBALL EFFECT" and a chance meeting with 2 other women at Pilgrim Books (Wendy and Sue) who are always looking for ministry moments!
Becky told them of her desire to build a library for the students at these schools and a bond of ministry was immediately formed. Pilgrim Books was always looking for ways to use the books that they already had enough of on the shelves and Becky was looking for books.

The small project snowballed into a 40 foot container and meant monthly visits to Pilgrim Books to pick up between 10 and 20 boxes of books that were being donated. Becky would pack them into her van and then into her garage.
The garage soon became too small for this ballooning project but this determined woman
found a storage place (also graciously donated) and then began to get donations to help send this container to Africa, which cost between 10 and $12,000.

Becky also began to add helpers to the project and received computers, fax machines, clothing, toiletries and more, to send along with the books to help the students and teachers in Africa.

People came up with creative ways to raise money and get equipment to send to these needy students. Many generous people became involved in this project! Our customers gave their pocket change (and more sometimes) as well as some large businesses (who gave generously) & many different Churches and individuals. People could see that this was a cause worth giving to and that God was at work!

On one visit to the school, Becky tried to get an audience with the King of Africa.
She had heard this was a next to impossible task.but it was not (of course) for God. Becky was granted her audience with the King who was pleased to offer her 3 rooms in his Castle for the library. This is the very same castle that Presidents stay in when they visit.

During their time together on this project Becky told us that the King gave his life over to God after talking with her brother who was a Pastor there. This was not part of the original "plan" but always interesting how God can take someone's sincere projects and plans and snowball them into amazing rays of hope and grace to others and blessing for us!

This is a Glory to God story, started by 2 determined women bold enough to say
"maybe we can help a little bit".and the now very full container with close to 900 boxes of Pilgrim Book's books, along with many other needed items for these 2 schools, was shipped at the end of January, 2010. Becky and Karen are planning a trip out to meet the container and begin work on the library in February and no doubt to share some "God stories" with their new brother in the Lord, the King of Africa!

This is also a Glory to God story to know of the humble beginnings of Pilgrim Books (some 20 years ago) and another 2 women (Grace and Ruth Eby) who said in another way "maybe we can help a little bit". Who could have foreseen that God would "enlarge their territory" (1Chr. 4:10) from Calgary Ab., to Ghana Africa.

Many thanks to all the generous donators for making this large project a reality and to Becky and Karen for their determination to follow God's leading on an otherwise impossible task! Many thanks for letting Pilgrim Books be a part of this lovely ministry and may the Lord continue to finish the work that He has started in Africa!

Respectfully submitted by Wendy Janzen

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

(Why books of course!)

This past couple of years we have connected up with "Christian Salvage Mission" who work out of Ontario sending used books to missionaries around the world. About once a week we call one of our favorite customers who comes to get boxes of books that we cannot use and he sees that they get safely into the hands of this amazing ministry. This past year I got to meet the head man of this operation who thanked me for our part in their project. He told me that 2010 had been the biggest year ever for the western provinces. They were hoping to send 11 sea containers filled with books. These containers are very large to say the least.

It is a huge privelige to know that Plgrim Books not only ministers to the people of Calgary but also to the many countries and people groups who have so so little good Christian reading material!

Many thanks to Henry who so faithfully picks up and distributes our books to the many who need them. Another "good and faithful servant" that God must be very pleased with!

THANK-YOU LORD for all the people you put in place to get your Word out!

When everyone does their part God is glorified!

DID YOU KNOW?

That Pilgrim Books is a ministry as well as a business???

Here are a few customer comments and staff thoughts and experiences;

STAFF-Many years ago a pastor told me that he received a seminary education from Pilgrim Books! We get amazing books in here!

CUSTOMER- One day I came to your shop very distraugt. I decided that when I left I would just walk in front of a bus. I wanted to die! One of the staff gave me a hug as I left and that simple act of kindness made me change my mind about what I was going to do!

STAFF- We are all handicapped in one way or another...God has used this place in the lives of staff people as well as customers...healing happens here!

CUSTOMER- I noticed that the Holy Spirit is at work in this place!

STAFF- One day a lady came in looking for something. She had a satanic symbol around her neck. I spoke with her for a long time, tried to answer her questions. When she left I gave her a DVD about a church group in town. Within a couple of weeks one of the ladies from that church group came in and told us that the lady went to one of their services and was saved and baptized!!!

CUSTOMER-You have been a God-send to us!

STAFF- One day a lady was crying in front of the Bible area...the staff person who was working at the front desk called for me and motioned in the lady's direction. I asked her if I could pray for her...she told me her story and we prayed together. A couple of days later she came back to tell me how God had worked in her life! Amazing! She wasn't crying that time!

CUSTOMER- Remember when you gave me that free Bible?! Thank-you for being there for me!

STAFF- One day a lady came in to "get rid of her Bible (sell it) because God hates me". I talked with her for a long time and told her I would "hold" onto her Bible until she wanted it back! The staff prayed for her and she soon was back in to retrieve her Bible and continue her relationship with the God who IS there and is not about hating us but loving us!

CUSTOMER- Remember when you prayed for me about getting a job? Thank-you...I have one now!

STAFF- One day Sue and I went together to a customers house to give him some bus tickets so that he could get to his new job interview. He just really needed a second chance to get going! Our God is the God of second chances!!!

CUSTOMER- From answers I have recieved from staff at Pilgrim Books and from the books themselves I was kept from going into a cult!!!

***Everyday we pray that God will use this place to His glory and He has!!!

Pray with us, when we come to mind, that He will continue His work here!***
